What We Do
High Desert Strategies (HDS) is a nonprofit working together with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to ethically and safely manage wild horses in our local backcountry of Eastern Oregon.
Herd Management & Health
Rangeland Management and Wild Horse Health are our primary goals. Our focus is managing population of wild horse herds through means of maintaining appropriate birth rates using the contraceptive GonaCon.
Maintaining Ecological Balance
Healthy rangelands are not only important to wild horse survival but also a wide variety of wildlife and many other resource users. Wild horses need to be managed in a manner that achieves a natural ecological balance.
Preserving Cultural Heritage
Wild horses are a part of the cultural heritage and history of the West, however they are often misunderstood and mismanaged. By helping fund critical range, fertility control you're helping us support wild horses' legacies.
Education & Awareness
At High Desert Strategies, our hope is to educate the public and spread awareness on wild horse herds in Eastern Oregon and the efforts to manage Appropriate Management Levels (AML) on the rangelands.
